WE ARE THE LANCASTER CLASSICS

BE DIFFERENT - GO VESPA, LAMBRETTA SCOOTERS

IT'S NOT JUST A SCOOTER... IT'S A LIFESTYLE.

Each scooter is restored and reconditioned to original specifications and is finished to an extremely high quality standard using many new parts you will read about below. All units are stripped down to their bare metal frame, re-aligned, then painted in a 5 step process (acid etch primer, anti rust treatment, high build primer, acrylic color and clearcoat) with ICI Paints, then re-wired & re-cabled. Before final assembly the engine is completely stripped, rebuilt and tested with a burn in due to the new parts used.

1. Component Separation: This stage involves stripping the scooter down to its individual components—bodywork, engine, and other parts. On average, this process takes approximately 8 hours; however, for older, rusted, or severely damaged scooters, this time may be extended. Following disassembly, the chassis undergoes a thorough inspection for any structural damage. We address any issues, such as rust or cracks (common in areas like the Vespa floorboard or Lambretta rear license plate area), by properly welding in new metal and repairing any dings by hand using hammer and dolly techniques.

2. Paint Removal:
We utilize a chemical stripping process to remove the existing paint, exposing the bare metal of the body. This creates the ideal surface for further bodywork. The steel of the bodywork is then polished to a high finish, removing any tarnish or oxidation.

3. Repainting:

Our repainting process involves a meticulous four-step procedure to ensure the scooter’s bodywork is well-protected and finishes with a long-lasting, high-quality coat. The paint process includes:

  • 2K ICI Acid Etch Primer

  • Zinc Primer (Anti-Rust Treatment)

  • 2K ICI High Build Primer

  • 2K ICI Acrylic Color

  • ICI Clearcoat

This thorough process results in a flawless finish with exceptional durability, and ICI research estimates a 30-year lifespan for the paintwork.

4. Engine Rebuild:
All external engine parts are bead blasted, and any worn hardware is replaced or zinc-coated. We rebuild the engine to run like new, ensuring it is both functional and visually pristine.

5. Optional Powder Coating:
We offer powder coating as an option for all exposed metal parts of your scooter. This finish is durable, long-lasting, and can restore these parts to their original chrome color, enhancing the overall aesthetics and protection.

6. Polishing/Chroming:
We carefully polish or chrome all the metal components of the scooter. Polishing is a traditional and more economical method, especially for aluminum parts, but chroming is also available. Parts like metal fender crests, switch housings, levers, choke knobs, fuel rods, and others are polished to a brilliant, reflective finish.

7. Engine & Gearbox: While the body and other parts are being worked on, the engine and gearbox are undergoing a complete rebuild. This includes replacing bearings, gears (if worn), piston rings, cylinders, carburetors, clutches, exhausts, and more. All seals and gaskets are replaced, and any stripped threads are properly re-threaded to the original size—ensuring a precise rebuild. The casings are carefully inspected, bead blasted, and polished for a finished look.

8. New Parts:
A critical step in the restoration process involves replacing all worn or outdated parts to make the scooter look and perform like new. This includes components such as cables, wiring looms, rubber grommets, tires, brakes, switches, seat covers, headlamps, speedometers, floor channels, and locks, among others. Due to the unique nature of each scooter, the specific parts replaced will vary. We guarantee that all parts replaced are brand new, and you can view the full list of new parts here. If any parts listed are not new, we offer a refund.

9. Final Assembly:
Once the body parts, engine, and other components are restored and finished, the scooter undergoes reassembly. This process is labor-intensive and includes installing new wiring looms, cables, and components such as the engine, forks, floor channel kit, and more. The reassembly phase is crucial to delivering a high-quality, fully functional scooter.

10. Final Adjustment&Road Testing: To ensure an optimal riding experience, each scooter undergoes thorough road testing (over 100 kms) to fine-tune all adjustments, including cable tension, brake bedding, and clutch operation. Before shipping, we meticulously recheck all components to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Once we are completely satisfied with the performance, the scooter receives its final wax treatment and is carefully crated for export.

Each scooter we restore is designed to deliver a flawless, reliable riding experience that will last for years, all while maintaining the iconic style and nostalgia of classic Vespa and Lambretta models.
