There are many
scooters available from Asia- who should I buy from?
There are many companies and shops that restore classic scooters,
but the quality varies greatly. When considering who to purchase
from, we recommend asking the following questions:
1. Is the vendor
an in-house restoration shop or just an agent?
Many so-called restorers are actually agents who purchase scooters
from local restoration shops. This can be problematic, as these
scooters are often restored using subpar, worn-out parts or cheap
reproduction components. As a result, the scooters are typically
restored to a price point rather than a standard of quality.
2. How are the
scooters prepared and painted?
The difference between a high-quality paint job and a cheap one may
not be immediately obvious. A quality restoration involves multiple
steps, including proper frame preparation, priming, and the use of
high-quality imported paint products. This process ensures that the
finish is durable and long-lasting. Our restoration process
includes:
On the other hand, low-cost restorations often use simple
cellulose paint that may last only a year or two before fading
or chipping. Please review our
Restoration Process
for further details.
3. Are the scooters
road tested and adjusted?
After restoration, the scooters require a running-in period (around
100 miles). Cables stretch, brakes and clutches bed in, and
adjustments are made to the carburetors, brakes, and points. These
adjustments should be completed before the scooter is shipped to
you. Be cautious of companies that ship scooters immediately after
assembly without performing this important process.
4.Does the
restoration shop import quality parts?
High-quality restoration often requires imported parts. Many
companies do not import parts from reliable sources, which can
affect the scooter’s long-term reliability and ease of maintenance.
At Lancaster Classics, we import parts from
ISO-9001 certified manufacturers in Taiwan, India, Germany, and
Italy. We also manufacture stainless steel parts in-house to ensure
top-tier quality.
5.
Does the vendor have experience in restoration?
Does the vendor understand Western standards of restoration, or are
they relying on local knowledge to cut costs? Our team is made up of
experts who know the standards required for a truly high-quality
restoration.
6. Is there an
after sales service/support?
After you purchase your scooter, you may have questions or need
assistance. Does the vendor offer helpful, knowledgeable customer
support? We offer responsive support via email (typically within 4
hours) and phone (within 12-24 hours). We are committed to resolving
any issues promptly.
7.
Is there a warranty on the scooter?
Is any form of
guarantee offered or is it a case of buy it deal with it!
Please see this in
the light that it’s meant - This is not meant to scare anybody, there
ARE good companies out here in Vietnam restoring quality scooters to
western standards, there are also many more companies whose
restorations make me cringe....
A properly restored
scooter is reliable, enjoyable and a great investment. A badly
restored scooter is the exact opposite!!!
All
fully-restored scooters come with a 90 day Limited warrantee from
Lancaster Classics. The 90 days commences from the date of pick up
(please note that if there is any wrong delivery/missing/damage of
the scooter, the customer needs to fill in a complaint form with the
forwarder immediately before they take the scooter home otherwise, we will not
be responsible for any refund or compensation). We
will replace any "New" part (not rebuilt parts) that ceases
to function properly within 90 days of purchase Free of Charge.
Refer to our
Parts List to determine if
the part in question is new or reconditioned. Labor is not included.
If any replaced component breaks, all you have to do is SIMPLY
take a picture and send to us ( We're different from some other
shops that we DON'T need the faulty parts to be
returned to us in exchange for the replacement). Call or notify
us by emails and we will replace the item and send complete
instructions on how to replace the item. Customer Satisfaction is
our TOP priority. Please note the warrantee covers normal use
conditions, not neglect or abuse or use as a rental scooter.

indestructible when properly maintained. Whether you’re a first-time
rider or an experienced scooter enthusiast, you’ll enjoy the ride!

components. For a full list of parts used in our restorations,
please see our

14.
Is
the necessary paperwork included with the bike?
Yes, all required legal documentation, including the vehicle's
registration and title, is provided. The paperwork will be shipped
via FedEx or UPS once final payment is received. Additionally, we
provide complete Parts Manuals, Owner’s
Manuals, and Service Manuals for the
scooter.

home?
We offer worldwide shipping to major ports. For an additional fee,
we can also arrange for home delivery. Please refer to our
Shipping section for more
details.
16.
What are the dimensions of the shipping crate?
Each crate measures 72 x 49 x 26 inches and weighs approximately 320
lbs (200 lbs for the scooter itself, with the rest depending on the
model and additional options). Shipping costs are primarily based on
dimensional weight, so the size of the crate helps determine the
overall cost.
17.
I love the color options – can I personalize the color scheme?
For custom orders, we offer a wide range of
colors, including those from
premium car brands like BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche. If you have a
specific color scheme in mind, you can send us photos, and we’ll
work to create your vision. Custom color options are free of
charge.
18.
How long will it take for my scooter to arrive?
Once we receive your deposit, it typically takes 6 days
to restore a Vespa and 8 days to restore a
Lambretta. Shipping from Vietnam to major ports takes around
32 days, and you will need approximately 5 days
to clear customs.
