Before You Buy.

There are many scooters available from Asia. What should I look for when choosing a seller?

The quality of classic scooter restorations can vary considerably. When comparing scooters, it is useful to look beyond photographs and ask how the scooter was restored, what parts were used, whether the engine was rebuilt, whether the finished scooter was tested, and whether the seller provides support after delivery.

A useful question is whether the company actually performs the restoration in its own workshop or acts primarily as an agent sourcing scooters from other workshops.

How are Lancaster Classics scooters restored?

Our restoration process begins with separating the scooter into its major components and inspecting the frame, mechanical parts and bodywork. The frame is prepared, repaired where necessary, painted through a multi-stage system, and the engine and running gear are rebuilt and tested before final assembly.

Are the scooters tested before shipment?

Yes. After assembly, scooters are adjusted and road-tested before shipment. This allows us to check operation and make adjustments to areas such as cable tension, brakes, clutch and engine running.

What Goes Into
A Restoration?

How is the frame prepared?

The scooter is stripped down so the frame can be inspected properly. Rust, cracks, dents and other structural issues are addressed before the frame moves into the paint process.

How is the paint applied?

Our restoration process uses several preparation and finishing stages, including acid-etch primer, anti-rust treatment, high-build primer, acrylic colour and clearcoat.

What happens to the engine?

Engines are stripped, inspected and rebuilt. Worn components are replaced where required, the engine and gearbox are checked, and the completed unit is tested before the scooter is finally assembled.

Are all parts on a restored scooter original?

Classic scooters are restored using a combination of original components, replacement parts and newly manufactured components where appropriate. The exact combination depends on the scooter and the component being restored.

Where do the replacement parts come from?

Our restorations use replacement components from established suppliers and manufacturers, together with components produced in-house where appropriate.

Are the parts new or reconditioned?

Different components may be supplied as new, original, or reconditioned depending on the part and the restoration. The condition of relevant components is identified in our parts information.

Can I order additional parts or accessories?

Make It Yours.

Can I personalise my scooter?

Yes. Custom orders can be specified around the model, colour, finish and other details. We can also offer additional accessories and upgrades depending on the scooter.

What upgrades are available?

Available options include luggage racks, turn signals, mirrors, wind deflectors, whitewall tyres, hydraulic disc brakes, sport exhausts and other accessories.

Can I request a specific colour?

Custom colours can be discussed for custom orders. You can send us a reference image or describe the colour and finish you have in mind, and we can discuss what is possible for your scooter.

Simple Process.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment can be made by international bank transfer, credit card through an international payment service, or PayPal. PayPal payments are subject to a 5% processing fee.

How does payment work for a custom order?

Custom restoration orders begin with a 70% deposit. Progress updates and photographs are provided during the restoration. Once the scooter is completed, the remaining 30% is due before shipping.

What accessories are included with a scooter?

Fully restored scooters include a selection of accessories such as a spare spark plug, spare brake light, spare clutch and brake cable, floor mat, scooter cover package, mixture cup and all-in-one tool, as listed on our Payment page.

Where can you ship?

We arrange international shipping to major ports around the world. Shipping arrangements and destination requirements vary by country.

Can you deliver the scooter directly to my home?

Yes. In addition to port delivery, we offer a door-to-door delivery service for customers who prefer not to deal with the destination port or arrange collection themselves.

With door-to-door delivery, the applicable shipping, destination and delivery costs are arranged in advance, and the scooter is delivered directly to your address without additional payment required upon delivery.

Who pays the destination port charges?

Destination port charges, customs clearance costs, import duties, taxes and local collection or delivery charges may be payable by the customer, depending on the destination and shipping arrangement.

These costs vary by country, port, carrier and shipment. Please see our Shipping page → for further information.

How long does shipping take?

Transit times depend on the destination, shipping method and current carrier schedule. Typical ocean transit to major ports is measured in several weeks.

We will provide the applicable shipping information for your destination when arranging your order.

What documents are supplied with the scooter?

Shipping documentation may include the Bill of Lading, purchase invoice, Bill of Sale, packing list, fumigation certificate, police clearance and de-registration certificate, Certificate of Origin and other documents required for the shipment.

How are the documents sent?

Legal and shipping documentation is prepared for the shipment and sent according to the requirements of the destination and shipping arrangement. We will provide the applicable documents and collection information after shipment.

Do I need to check local registration requirements?

Yes. Registration, import and road-use requirements are determined by the authorities in the destination country. Customers should confirm local requirements before purchasing and importing a scooter.

What happens if there is a problem with the scooter?

Please contact Lancaster Classics as soon as possible and provide photographs and a description of the issue. We will review the situation and work with you toward a practical solution.

What should I do if the scooter arrives damaged?

If there is visible damage, incorrect delivery or missing items when the shipment arrives, the issue should be reported to the freight forwarder immediately and documented before taking the scooter home.

Do you provide technical support after delivery?

Yes. Customers can contact us with questions about the scooter, its operation, maintenance or other ownership-related matters.

I have never ridden a classic scooter before. Is there anything I should know?

Classic scooters have different controls, mechanical systems and riding characteristics from modern automatic scooters. New riders should familiarise themselves with the controls and local road regulations before riding.

How should I look after a restored scooter?

Regular maintenance is important for any classic vehicle. Oil, brakes, tyres, cables, electrical systems and other wear items should be inspected and maintained according to the scooter's specification and usage.

Do you provide manuals?

Documentation supplied with a scooter depends on the model and order. If you require a particular owner's, service or parts manual, please ask us when placing your order.
